Bishop Gerald H. Kicanas informs parishioners about upcoming heart surgery on Jan. 7th, 2022.
"December, 2021
Dear Friends in the Diocese of Tucson,
Blessings in this Advent Season as we await the amazing event of the Lord born among us.
Recently I learned that I had some serious issues with my heart. Quite a surprise! It has been determined that I need open heart surgery. This will be taking place on or near January 7, 2022 barring a Covid spike. It is estimated that the surgery will take about six hours followed by some five to seven days in the hospital and a six week recovery at home. I have confidence in my doctors and their prognosis. Bishop Weisenburger has been a great help in offering whatever is needed for my recovery.
I ask for your prayers that all will go well and I can return to be of help to Bishop Weisenburger and all in our beloved diocese of Tucson.
While obviously this is not something I expected or desire, the surgery needs to happen. I know I can count on your prayers which I am confident will see me through.
My greatest joy has been the opportunity to serve for these past twenty plus years in our Diocese. You are the best and have always been a great support.
With my love and gratitude,
Most Rev. Gerald F. Kicanas Bishop Emeritus of Tucson"
