This is a continuing series of educational articles on the Cursillo Movement and Methodology. In recent articles we described the Cursillo Methodology and the importance of Friendship Groups for Catholics to share and grow in their Christian Life using the Tripod Method (Piety, Study, and Action). Today we hear from someone who gives a practical life application of how it’s done.
“Walking the walk and talking the talk - Karen Medel
Hello all. My name is Karen Medel and I lived my Cursillo in 2014. My theme was Live to Love (L2L). We have been provided a great opportunity for study and I thought I would provide you the way I utilize the Cursillo methodology in my everyday life. I am usually the first one to say to any sister or brother who says - my piety isn't strong, or my study could be better, or I really don't have any action - you are probably not giving yourself enough credit. As I tell my group sisters, it isn't always unicorns and rainbows - sometimes it's a lot of little. I work full time and always seem busy. Every morning I get an email from the Catholic company called Your Morning Offering. The email contains a quote from a Saint, a meditation of the day, a verse of the day, and a link to the daily readings. There is also a homily about the gospel. I would be remiss to say that I read everything every day but I do read a little every day. Some days I read it all from the quote through the homily. Other days it's a lot of little. But every day I read something from that email - study every day. I also get emails from other sites and sometimes get those read in a day or sometimes I spend the weekend catching up. I pray every morning for my husband and myself to be safe. I pray for my children to be kept safe. I pray for my family, my friends, my enemies, and anyone who is struggling - piety. On my way to work, I listen to the rosary or to the Catholic radio station where there are usually prayer times - piety. Sometimes the prayer may just be God help me today. Action - this is where a lot of little comes in mostly. Do you ever pay for someone's coffee? Let someone in during traffic? Do you see someone struggling and ask if they need help? Do you give someone money? If a coworker calls in sick, do you text them to see if they are feeling better or if they need anything? If you see someone at the grocery store trying to get something out of reach, do you help them? Matthew 25:40 tells us "Amen I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." Remember - it isn't always unicorns and rainbows - sometimes it is a lot of little”.
Next week we will discuss how Friendship Groups gather together to strengthen one another through an even larger group gathering know as an Ultreya.

We look forward to meeting you.
