"The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; so, ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest." -Mt 9:37-38.
Last week, the St. Maximilian Kolbe Prison Ministry said goodbye to Sr. Lucy Nigh S.S.N.D., a long-time Prison Ministry volunteer. Sr. Lucy has returned to Wisconsin where she will begin a new journey in her life and a different ministry. Sr. Lucy is a true worker for Christ who answered this call and put herself to work doing the Lord’s business.
Sr. Lucy volunteered at the Douglas state prison for almost 15 years. She not only led the men through Communion Services, but she also brought music and joy to her services with her guitar and music. Sr. Lucy ministered to hundreds of men throughout her time at the Douglas State Prison and I know she changed a lot of lives through her ministry.
Sr. Lucy also offered leadership to the prison volunteers in Douglas by setting up regular meetings, coordinating schedules, recruiting and training new volunteers, and maintaining a good working relationship with the senior chaplain at the Douglas prison.
Prison ministry was not all she did! Sr. Lucy also worked with the migrants at the migrant center and other places to support them in their challenging journey to the United States.
Thank you, Sr. Lucy, for your tireless ministry, your leadership, and your friendship! You will be missed.
The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few. Please consider joining us at the prison ministry in Douglas. We need bilingual men and women to join us in this Work of Mercy, ministering to those in prison. We need volunteers to support our current volunteers and volunteers who are interested in teaching and preparing men for Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation.
