Gospel means good news. Who couldn't use some of that right now? The first gospel emerges from a people moving through the most frightening times they've ever known. This short story of Jesus and his disciples features confusion, disunity, violence, healing, love, and hope.
I'm Father Nathan Castle, and I'm inviting you into an immersion into the world of the first written gospel. I'll be offering a retreat and scripture study series that will take us from the weekend before Lent all the way up to Easter. I’ve created an experience for mind and heart.
We'll use Mark, the shortest of the four gospels. We'll study Mark’s Gospel over Zoom sessions beginning with a retreat on Saturday, February 13th, from 10am to 1pm, Arizona time. We'll continue with one-hour sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout Lent. They’ll be recorded so you can view them at your convenience. I’ll use a lecture format that provides solid, relatable content.
On Sundays from 10am until 11am Arizona time, throughout Lent, we'll gather via Zoom for interactive Bonus Sessions that will include time for Q&A.
I'm asking an offering of $40 for the entire series, which includes admission to the Bonus Sessions – available exclusively to registered participants. (The lectures will ultimately be available on YouTube at no charge.)
My goal is to help us all be better informed in our faith and our spiritual journey. This series is also suitable for those who identify as “spiritual, but not religious.” Mark's Gospel is a good introduction to the person of Jesus and the challenges and joys of following him. It also is the foundation of the gospels of Luke and Matthew, which expand on Mark.
Mark's original audience were folks living through bloody persecution and lots of struggle. As we study Mark’s Gospel together we’ll discover how his message can help us move through the difficulties we’re experiencing today. Together, we’ll move through the darkness to a new dawning.
So, I invite you to come along for this journey: Darkest before the Dawn, the Gospel of Mark, for 2021.
