Most of the the Church’s liturgical life unfolds within its longest season, Ordinary Time. While some see these weeks as mundane or unimportant, this is truly a season ripe with a “carousel of sayings and stories, songs and prayers . . . in which the mysterious ways of God are not merely presented but experienced, not merely perused but lived through” (Mark Searle, “Sunday: The Heart of the Liturgical Year” in Between Memory and Hope). Ordinary Time is an extraordinary season in which we encounter the Paschal Mystery in its fullness and discover what it means to be a disciple. In this presentation, Timothy A. Johnson will lead participants in an exploration of the rich theology of the season in Scripture and liturgy, as well as in offering some practical insights on being parish in Ordinary Time. This workshop is designed for homilists, musicians, liturgical ministers, catechists, RCIA team members, and anyone who would like to grow in the spirituality of this extraordinary season.
