Nearly one thousand people gathered on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Saint Augustine Cathedral to bask in the transcendent sounds of Christmas. Voices raised in song hearkened to the choirs of angels as the hearts of listeners were lifted towards Heaven. Dozens of musicians joined their art together in praise of the Divine Creator, both thanking him and coming to understand him better through the creation of music. “The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value” (CCC 1156, SC 112).
The concert included both traditional and original arrangements of Christmas music, featuring parish choirs from across the Diocese of Tucson and accompaniment by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Artistic Director, Carlos Zapien, and mezzosoprano, Diana Peralta, were soloists for songs in English, Spanish, and Latin. Attendees were also invited to join the professionals in singing select hymns that recalled the birth of Christ.
This concert is part of the Cathedral Concert series which is offered free of charge but require reservations. For a list of upcoming concerts, please visit www.tucsoncathedralconcerts.org.
