On May 11, 2022, Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School (OMOS) hosted its 2nd annual DanceFest, which was started last year. DanceFest started last year by then-principal Erin Vu as a way of bringing excitement and engagement around fundraising efforts during the pandemic. At the time, many students were home and the traditional ways of bringing the community together were not an option.
"This year, we decided to continue with the DanceFest fundraiser because community and service are founding pillars of our mission," said OMOS Principal Shakenya Gholson.
OMOS launched two weeks prior to DanceFest, playing music in the car line and offering incremental benchmark prizes, such as Wacky Sock Day and Ice Bucket the Leader, and Pie the Principal in the Face. The students and teachers came together in the end for a major dance party in the Parish Hall. It was a great opportunity to rally as a community and support the school, even OMOS Pastor, Fr. Arnold Aurillo and mascot Mustang Manny joined the fun!
DanceFest was a success, raising over $10,000 and collecting sponsors and donations from 24 states.
"This year, our DanceFest earnings will go toward increasing our technological capabilities," said Mrs. Gholson. "We are committed to increasing access to these necessary tools and making fun and learning a reality for all of our students."
