The killing of George Floyd was an immense tragedy and I pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. Floyd, his grieving family, and all who have been wounded by his death. Yesterday, Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all counts of murder of George Floyd. This conviction is evidence of another step towards racial justice, a justice long overdue, “a promised land” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. hoped for. While the conviction of Derek Chauvin cannot restore Mr. Floyd’s life, I am grateful to the members of the judicial system, witnesses, and jury for the role each played in bringing about justice. I also pray that all Americans will search within our souls for any sign of racism or violence and commit ourselves to acts of healing and unity.
