Bishop Weisenburger sends out a message about the new abortion law in Texas:
"Many of us have seen the extensive coverage in both secular and church media about recent legislation in Texas that has greatly restricted abortion in that state. This is the kind of news that warms the hearts of all of us who believe in the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death. As pleased as I am with Texas’ new legislation I likewise am pleased to note that I am aware of many movements in Texas that go beyond merely working to make abortion illegal. Their efforts contribute wonderfully to this critical change in legislation but actually go further as they enable pregnant woman to make the choice for life and then live in less fear and anxiety.
While there are pro-life organizations that have labelled Arizona as the most pro-life state in the nation, there is still work for us here at home. As I have urged the faithful in the past, now is the time to contact our national representatives to urge them to maintain Hyde Amendment restrictions on abortion funding in all pending and future legislation. The need to contact our representatives immediately is truly critical and the time it takes you to make a phone call or send a message is a small price to pay for the good it could produce. The time is ripe also for each of us to see how we too can help make the choice for life easier for women who are poor or alone and wondering how they can welcome the life they carry. In all these ways we witness to the Gospel of Life and further the Kingdom of God in our midst."
