This week, the Church celebrates World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life on February 2, 2024. The celebration commemorates the women and men who have fully and completely given their lives to God as members of Religious Orders in the Catholic Church. The US Conference of Catholic Bishop explains that this year, the day is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord known as Candlemas Day: the day in which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world.
In this week’s New Outlook, we are fortunate to hear from Sister Sydney Moss, the Vocations Director for the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco. Though the Salesian Sisters aren’t currently ministering in the Diocese of Tucson, Sr. Sydney’s visits her family in Oro Valley where they are parishioners at St. Mark the Evangelist.
Father John Arnold, the pastor at St. Mark the Evangelist, recently spoke with Sr. Sydney about her vocation and she proudly states, “I married Jesus.” For those discerning religious life, Sr. Sydney shares that “Sisters are normal people.” She explains how she came to find her vocation and Sr. Sydney encourages women and men to prayerfully consider all things that lead you closer to God.
