Deacon Michael Denton entered into eternal life with Our Lord on Friday, December 6, 2024. One of eleven siblings, Deacon Michael grew up in Globe, Arizona, where he attended Holy Angels School.
Deacon Michael retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Command Sergeant Major and subsequently worked at Fort Huachuca until his retirement from Federal Service in 2023. While working at Fort Huachuca, he was active with the Holy Family Post Catholic Community.
Ordained for the Diocese of Tucson on June 5, 2021, Deacon Michael was assigned to Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish. Fluent in Korean, Michael and his wife, Helen, for many years ministered to the Korean Catholic Community in Sierra Vista.
Although his was a tragically brief ministry in terms of years, he was very active in all aspects of Parish life, especially in Marriage Preparation and Tribunal work, and made a great impact on the lives of his fellow Deacons, the priests and the whole Catholic Community in Sierra Vista and Whetstone’s Good Shepherd Mission.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Bishop Edward Weisenburger at St. Andrew’s on Saturday, December 14, 2024 and burial followed, with Military Honors, at Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
