The eighth grade essay topic was, “Seek God First.” Congratulations to:
Bishop Weisenburger explained Padre Kino’s evangelization: “Rather than teaching the Native People, ‘You are lost until you are found in Jesus,’ Padre Kino would draw in the ground to show where he came from in Italy, the ocean he crossed, and finally where the Native People are here. ‘This is where we are today,’ he would say, ‘and this God who has always loved you sent me all this way just to make it clear that I can tell you how much He loves you.’ It probably shouldn’t surprise us that we still remember Padre Kino centuries later. He is a wonderful example of evangelization, and to evoke his memory – especially in these essays – is a wonderful thing for us to do. I was impressed with what I read in each of the winning essays.”Shelby Kyle
