An original program on the life and ministry of Father Eusebio Francisco Kino will air Friday November 27 at 8PM EST on Global Catholic Network EWTN. Father Kino was a 17th century Jesuit missionary who evangelized the northern frontier of the Spanish Colonial Empire, which extended into present day Arizona, a region one historian called “The Rim of Christendom.”
Father Kino currently has the status of Venerable, two steps below canonization as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. Kino introduced important agricultural resources, including wheat, fruit varieties and cattle, helping the native population overcome seasonal food shortages. They in turn influenced the style and substance of his ministry. The hour-long program was produced in cooperation with the Southwest Mission Research Center and with the generous assistance of the Kino Heritage Society and the Diocese of Tucson. It was written, directed and hosted by James C. Kelty.
