A Tucson man who spent nearly 30 years on death row converted to Catholicism while in state prison.
In 1995, police arrested Barry Jones and charged him with the sexual assault and murder of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter, Rachel. Decades later, courts reviewed new evidence, and Jones was found not to be responsible for the sexual assault charge and he took a lesser plea of second degree murder for the death of the child, for not ensuring that the necessary medical attention was provided to potentially save her life.
In 2023, Jones was released from prison. Months later, he reflected on his time in custody and shares how he found the Catholic faith, thanks in part to the spiritual direction of Deacon Ed Sheffer.
Listen to Barry’s story of his early life, poor decisions that led to his time in prison, and how finding faith led him to forgiveness, hope, and second chances.
