Reflecting on the book, “Holy Moments” by Matthew Kelly
Lightly edited for clarity
A ‘holy moment’ is a single moment in which you open yourself to God and make yourself available to him. You set aside personal preference and self-interest and, for one moment, you do what you prayerfully believe God is calling you to do. A quote from the book states, “some moments are holy some are unholy, and our choices can guide a moment in either direction.” You want to try to have as many holy moments as you can. It is not a thing that lasts a day, a month, or a year; it’s a moment. Every day, in every way, I am creating more and more holy moments.
Kindness is so important for holy moments; no matter how your life is right now, you can change it. In the book, it says how the rest of your life is waiting for you: will it be holy or unholy moments? Only you can guide the way that your holy or unholy moments will go. It only takes one holy moment to shift your life in the right direction, so with that, don’t let your past rob you of your future. Holy moments reveal who you are capable of being and that you are capable of being amazing. You are more than the worst thing that has happened to you, so make choices that are easy to live with no regret. There is no limit to the number of holy moments you can participate in. Holy moments give meaning and divine purpose to our lives.
The book made me want to collaborate with God and to create holy moments. They are choices that are easy to live with. Being with God in holy moments is the best feeling you could ever have. God is never more than one choice away or even more than one prayer away.
