The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12 is an important day for the Diocese of Tucson community. Parishes and schools across the Diocese celebrate with re-enactments of Juan Diego's story of meeting Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas.
Our Mother of Sorrows Parish celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with a bilingual vigil mass on December 11. As part of the celebration, the youth and children of the community brought their gifts and talents as an offering to the Virgin Mary by presenting a small play of the apparitions of the Virgin of Guadalupe to Juan Diego by the parish youth group "Teens Missionary Disciples (TMD)". Also, the children and youth group of the Mextucaz folkloric ballet, directed by Angelica Lopez, offered Our Lady of Guadalupe an hour of beautiful folkloric dances. Everything took place in a family atmosphere and of great joy celebrating the diversity and remembering the innocence of St. Juan Diego that the Virgin saw in him when she chose him for such a beautiful and historic message of faith!
In Our Lady of the Valley Parish, in Green Valley, AZ the celebrations continued. There was a play depicting Our Lady of Guadalupe along with Mariachi during the feast day's vigil.
