This year, the Diocese of Tucson’s Office of Vocations began offering a monthly dinner, called Kino Discernment Nights, for men who are discerning their Vocation.
Named after Venerable Padre Kino, the patron of our desert borderlands, these evenings elaborate on the fact that all people are called to holiness. Catholics choose between sacramental marriage, consecrated single life, and religious life as priests, sisters, and brothers. The question becomes: which Vocation best leads you to unity with God in Heaven? Find more information here.
At Kino Discernment Nights, unmarried men under 50 are invited to share a meal, join in discussions about the priesthood with the Director of Vocations, and cultivate genuine fellowship centered on faith. Each month will elaborate on a different theme.
“We had a great start to our Kino Discernment Nights at St. Augustine Cathedral,” said Fr. Alan Valencia, Director of Vocations. “Our first discussion was about that moment in our life when we were moved, for the very first time, to ask the big question: is God calling me to be a priest? Things don’t just happen in life; they come into our ‘everydayness,’ influenced by our family, friends, duties, environments, moments of worship, etc. Recognizing that specific moment when we heard God calling us for the very first time is very special and inspiring. It is a moment when we notice God’s tremendous love staring at us deep into our soul and gently calling us to follow Him into the depths and to the heights.”
Men of all discernment stages are welcome to attend, even if this is the first time thinking about priesthood or if the application to attend seminary has already been submitted.
“I encourage everyone to discern the priesthood and religious life, and not simply assume you are being called to the married life,” said Fr. Alan. “I want to invite all men currently discerning priesthood to join us in our next Kino Discernment Night for some prayer, dinner, good fellowship, and thought-provoking conversations about priesthood and discernment.”
Upcoming Kino Discernment Nights will be held on the following Mondays:
February 26th
April 22nd
June 3rd
