This month Bishop Edward Weisenburger and Bishop Emeritus Gerald Kicanas celebrated Mass with members of the Acts of the Apostles Society. Included in the society are members of the Diocese of Tucson who have left the Catholic Foundation or a Catholic parish, school, or service organization in their will. There are currently 132 known members or couples in the Acts of the Apostles Society, including the last four bishops.
On Friday, May 12, at a private Mass at Cathedral Square in Our Lady's Chapel the bishops recognized the legacy gifts by presenting pins to each donor. Deceased couples were remembered at the Mass.
In his homily, Bishop Weisenburger said, “As Christians, love is our origin and our essence. God doesn’t want us to fear him. He wants us to have a relationship of love with him and, in turn, a relationship of love with others. In the first centuries of the Church, what was it that startled people? The extraordinary example of love. Let’s get back to the very heart of our relationship with God, what we should be with one another."
Following Mass donors enjoyed brunch with both bishops in the new Cathedral Corner, which is available for rent and catering through Johnny Gibson’s.
If you have left a Catholic entity from our Diocese in your will, please contact the Catholic Foundation to be added to this generous and much-appreciated group of people.
