Meet the New Principal of Santa Cruz School: Theresa Dolan Dixon

With over 37 years of experience in Catholic education, Theresa Dolan Dixon started the 2022-23 school year as the new principal of Santa Cruz Catholic School. As she settles in to her first school quarter at a new school after seven years serving as principal at another Catholic elementary school, it is her prayer that she “brings a good amount of experience and wisdom to Santa Cruz.” Prior to moving to Tucson in 2015, she began her career in the Church as an administrator and teacher in the Diocese of Youngstown for 30 years.  

Dolan Dixon has been involved in every part of Catholic education during the length of her career. She is intimately familiar with what a Catholic school needs to provide the best possible experience for the families which it serves. Her favorite parts about working in Catholic education are “the beautiful children and the privilege to share our Catholic faith with them on a daily basis.” She says that she enjoys “working with teachers and staff members who are dedicated to their faith life and the mission of the school” and that “having a part in a child's journey towards heaven is both humbling and amazing!” 

According to their website, the Santa Cruz Catholic School community strives to nurture active Christians, responsible citizens, motivated learners, and servant leaders. Students are brought up with Sacramental preparation, weekly school-wide Mass, and classroom environments that teach not only the child’s mind, but also their spirit.  

On their community page, they state, “We are Catholic first! We take great care in preparing students for a life of faith through the Sacraments!” Dolan Dixon loves this philosophy of living life “Catholic first,” as she relies on her faith to get her through the difficult challenges of life. 

Q: How does faith play a role in your job as principal? 

A: “In essence, it is the job of the principal to be the faith leader and heart of the Catholic school. I rely on my faith to serve as the center of all that I am.” 

Dolan Dixon is excited to join the Santa Cruz community and to bring her rich experience and the gifts that God has given her in leadership to the Catholic school. When she is not working in Catholic education, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, crafting, and swimming.
