Catholic Community Services’ Yuma Safe House recently purchased two new homes for victims of domestic violence. The purchase was made possible by a generous gift from the Day 1 Family Fund. The philanthropy provides grants to support nonprofits helping families who are experiencing homelessness. These two new homes in Yuma have led the way to establishing a transitional living program for families impacted by domestic violence who need to establish new homes so they and their children can live safer and healthier lives.
“To be able to provide a new place for families to heal and regain control of their life is truly a blessing,” says Evita Mendez-Counts, Executive Director of CCS in Yuma.
As Safe House prepared the home for the family, Fr. Emilio Chapa from St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Yuma and CCS Yuma’s advisory board, blessed the home for those who will live there. Staff and advisory board members accompanied Fr. Emilio. Jodie Wight, Regional Program Director of Domestic Violence Shelters, said, “It was really nice to come together as a community to further the CCS mission to benefit those we serve!”
