Reverend Ronald Philip Gagnon passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the age of 90. Fr. Ron was born on March 30, 1931, in Nashua, New Hampshire to Philip and Olivine Gagnon. He attended Infant Jesus Elementary School in Nashua and attended seminaries in Rigaud, Quebec, Canada and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Tucson on May 26, 1956, in Manchester, New Hampshire by Bishop Matthew Francis Brady. His first assignment was as associate pastor at St. Theresa Catholic Parish in Phoenix, Arizona (which was then a part of the Diocese of Tucson) followed by assignments as associate pastor at St. Cyril Parish in Tucson, Sacred Heart Parish in Nogales, and St. Matthew Parish in Phoenix. He was assigned as pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Willcox, Immaculate Conception Parish in Douglas, Most Holy Trinity in Tucson, and St. Ambrose Parish in Tucson. In addition to his pastoral assignments, he served the Diocese of Tucson of as the Director of the Permanent Diaconate, the Director of Continuing Education, as a member of the Priests’ Assurance Association, and as a judge in the Tribunal. In 1979 he was named as Chaplain of the Newman Association at Pima College, West Campus. Fr. Ron was a loving, dedicated, faithful servant of God and had a great love for his family, friends, and his parishioners. He is survived by his brothers Leonard Gagnon and Dr. Alden Gagnon (Francine) along with many nieces and nephews.
His life will be celebrated at St. Augustine Cathedral on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger presiding. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Fr. Ron asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Diocese of Tucson Priests Assurance Corporation or Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona, Tucson, Arizona.
Eternal rest grant unto Fr. Ron, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
