St. Nicola Saggio
Feast day: Feb. 2

One of the newest saints of the church, St. Nicola was canonized on Nov. 23, 2014. Born Giovanni Battista Clemente Saggio on Jan. 6, 1650, he was the first of five children born to an Italian farmer and his wife. He went to school under the Order of the Minims and, at age 20, against his family’s wishes, he became an Oblate, taking the name Nicola. Well known for his work as a catechist, he died on Feb. 2, 1709.

-- Say a prayer for all farmers who supply us with food.
-- Find his hometown of Longobardi, Cosenza, Italy, on Google earth.

Prayer for Catechists
St. Nicola, you spent your life in the ministry of catechesis, working in the vineyards of the Lord. Bless those catechists who work in our parish and grant that, through your intercession, we might always have willing laborers to spread the good news of the Gospel.
