Poverello House of Tucson is a home-like place of welcome and a safe environment providing daytime rest, food, laundry facilities, showers, and companionship for homeless men. Read their exciting news:
Dear Friends of Poverello House,
For three years we've been raising funds for a better facility for our Poverello House. I am happy to report that it is our hope that we'll be in our new facility sometime next year! Located on Blacklidge Drive in Tucson, the new house is spacious and will include much better accommodations for our live-in staff. We will even have a dining room where the guys can gather for a meal or a meeting. In the meantime, we'll continue using the property where we've been these last 14 years.
COVID-19 shut us completely down for 5 months, then in August 2020, we reopened the yard and courtyard and for the past 27 months, we've offered that limited hospitality. Our guests have been using an outdoor shower, port-a-potty, and laundry machines. Finally, in November of this year, we have been able to re-open the house and our two TV rooms. Thanks to the help of many friends and supporters we're getting back closer to normal!
On the Feast of St. Francis (October 4) at our annual fundraising dinner, we were happy to be able to honor the work of Tom & Em Hill of the Z Mansion in downtown Tucson for their extraordi-nary service to the homeless in the midst of Covid-19. Among our many guests were Bishop Weisenburger; Msgr. Cahalane; and Jean Fedigan, founder of Sr. Jose Women’s Center. Helping serve our guests was the local Jesuit Volunteer Corp (JVCs).
As we enter the Advent Season and await Christmas, the incarnation celebration, please consider a donation to our work for the coming year. Thank you!
