MILWAUKEE, WI—More than three dozen School Sisters of St. Francis of the United States Province will celebrate milestone anniversaries of service as women religious in 2021.
In addition, one lay woman in Associate Relationship with the community will celebrate her 40-year Jubilee and two lay women their 25-year Jubilees. Sister Darlene Hoch (70 years) and Sister Kathleen Kluthe (60 years) are among those being honored. Their ministry includes service in the Diocese of Tucson.
Sister Darlene Hoch Sister Darlene Hoch was born in Knoxville, Iowa. She received a bachelor of science degree in
elementary education from Alverno College in Milwaukee. In the Diocese of Tucson, Sister served in Tucson as a private caregiver (1987-2001), a teacher Chaparral Career College (2000-2001), and a private counselor/business manager (2001-2007). In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister taught at St. Philomena School in Chicago (1955-1958). In the Archdiocese of Omaha, Sister taught at Ryan High School in Omaha (1958-1963, 1974-1978, and (1980-1983); St. John the Baptist High School in Petersburg (1964-1967), and Holy Name High School in Omaha (1983-1987). In the Diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota, Sister taught at Holy Trinity High School in Winsted (1963-1964). In the Archdiocese of Des Moines, Iowa, Sister taught religious education at St. Mary Parish in Rosemont (1967-1968). In the Diocese of Davenport, Sister taught at a public junior high school in Knoxville (1968-1974) and at Marquette High School in St. Paul (1978-1980). She also served in Knoxville as a medical office receptionist (2001-2011) and volunteer at St. Anthony Parish (2012-2013). In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sister served as a volunteer switchboard operator at St. Joseph Convent in Milwaukee (2013-2018). Sister serves in the ministry of prayer and presence at Maria Linden Senior Apartments in Milwaukee.
Sister Kathleen Kluthe Sister Kathleen Kluthe was born in Dodge, Nebraska. She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Alverno College in Milwaukee; a master of arts in religious education from Fordham University in Bronx, New York; and a master of arts degree
in culture and spirituality from Holy Names University in Oakland, California. In the Diocese of Tucson, Sister served in Tucson as religious education coordinator at Our Mother of Sorrows School (1969-1980), youth ministry and religious education coordinator at St. Pius X Parish (1986-1990), campus minister at Salpointe Catholic High School (1990-2000), team member on the Jordan Ministry Team (2001-2006). Other service includes the Diocese of Phoenix, Sister served as youth minister and religious education coordinator at Resurrection Parish in Tempe (1980-1986). In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, sister served as President of her congregation (2006-2014). In the Archdiocese of Omaha, Sister taught at St. Mary School in Osmond (1964-1967), St. John the Baptist School in Fordyce (1967-1968), and since 2015 has served as chaplain at Serene Care Hospice in Omaha.
