Catholic Schools’ Second Collection September 26-27! Has COVID-19 affected our schools? Across the country 148 Catholic schools in 24 states closed; 100 of those schools closed as of March 2020 which indicates they were affected by COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, none of those schools were in Arizona. However, our diocesan budget was significantly hit due to the economic effects of the pandemic and that has certainly trickled down to the Department of Catholic Schools, who has reduced their department personnel to only three full time employees: Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Program Manager as well as three part time consultants. Please consider a donation to this most important mission of the Church – forming the mind and soul of the children we serve!
The Diocese of Tucson consists of 23 schools – 16 elementary schools: 1 preschool, 2 PK-12 schools, and 4 high schools. All 23 schools span across the 43,000 square miles of the diocese to include Sierra Vista, Douglas, Nogales, Tucson, Casa Grande, San Carlos, and Yuma. Seventeen of our schools are parish schools. We serve mission schools, border schools, urban schools, and a Cristo Rey school, each with their own unique mission, charism, and culture. First by donating to this second collection if you are able. Second, please remember our school leaders, pastors, teachers, parents, and most especially our students in your prayers. Third, please promote Catholic education in your community. One of the best gifts we can offer the youth is formation in the faith that is integrated with their academic and social life through the ministry of Catholic education.
