The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson has taken several steps to make an impact during this global pandemic. Beginning in March when the stay at home order was issued, they granted all parishes that had received a grant from the foundation to choose to use it for COVID related relief instead of the intended capital purchase. Upon the closure of in-person masses, the Foundation’s Board of Directors approved an additional $500,000 to be used until the end of the year for a Needy Parish Fund. To date, $158,000 has been granted to 24 parishes. These Needy Parish Grants will remain open until the end of the year.
The Foundation quickly realized that on-line giving needed to be an option for all 78 parishes during the closure. They developed the HOPE Campaign (Helping our Parishes Endure) where a parishioner from anywhere in the Diocese of Tucson could donate to their parish on-line. To date, almost $50,000 has been donated. The Foundation also funded a partnership with Our Sunday Visitor to bring automated calls, state of the parish reports and mailings to any parish in the Diocese to help with communication to their parishioners during the pandemic.
The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson is only able to support during these times because of its generous donors. Giving to the Foundation and the Annual Catholic Appeal is so important during these trying times. Although the Foundation team is working remotely the Foundation remains “Open for Business” via normal phone numbers and email addresses. They continue to award grants, accept contributions, respond to requests, manage invested assets, and serve the needs of the Catholic Community. If you have questions about the Foundation please contact Elizabeth Bollinger, Executive Director at [email protected] or (520) 955-2109.
